We had our last breakfast at Le Meridien. The Thai part of the buffet was very tasty, which had rice porridge with chicken balls (must have had msg because it was so good) and a selection of noodles where you can add veggies and soup with chicken to it. If you're not into that for breakfast, they have the more western style breakfast with pancakes, french toast, eggs, bacon, deli meats, cheese, and various pastries.
After breakfast we took a trip to the post office to mail back some souveniers we had purchased at the Sunday Market. Not surprisingly, the postage to mail the items back to the US cost more than the value of the items inside the package! Regardless, the combined price was still better than anything we could have gotten in the US. We checked out at noon and took a taxi to the Chiang Mai airport to make a one day stop in Bangkok.
We returned to the Royal President, dropped off our bags and headed out. I desperately needed a haircut and Theresa wanted a massage, so we took the BTS to drop Theresa off at Body Tune for a one hour thai massage while I went to get my haircut a block away at a place my uncle recommended. The stylist did a great job, very meticulous in cutting my hair. Then another woman washed my hair. Washed it once, rinsed, then washed it again, rinsed, cond
itioned, rinsed, and during each wash and condition, I was given head and shoulder massages. When I was taken back to the chair, she put some kind of solution that felt like aftershave in my hair and continued to massage my head. Then my original stylist did some final clean up work and I got another good shoulder massage. One of the best haircuts for just $12. I was there for 45 minutes, so I didn't have to wait long for Theresa to finish getting her massage. Theresa said that this masseuse was better, not as painful, and more pleasurable.
Next stop was the Siam Paragon, where we had dinner at the food court. We had grilled pork salad, seafood tom yum noodle soup, crispy shrimp omelette with rice, pork fried noodles. Then we went to the market to buy a custard apple for Theresa and an orange slushie for me. The food at the food court looked better than it tasted, the Sunday Market street cart food was definitely better tasting.
Although we were slightly bummed that our last meal (for now) in Bangkok was sub-par - we are still sold on Thailand. Where else can you go and stay in 5 star hotels for $100, get free amazing breakfast buffets, get two hour massages for under $20, eat amazing Thai, Japanese, Western, and probably any other kind of food for cheap, and be surrounded by the friendliest and most well-mannered people we have ever met? Maybe we'll retire here in 30 years....
